As CEO of Legacy Communities, LLC, Stephen F. Been has provided sizable charitable contributions to a number of local organizations, including the Frank Ski Kids Foundation (FSKF). The Atlanta foundation is best known for holding the Frank Ski Annual Youth Bowl, and Been and his team have helped to sponsor the bowl and donated trophies for the event.
Been has also backed a number of FSKF initiatives in science education. A contribution of nearly $60,000 covered expenses associated with a trip to the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador. Children earned a spot on the trip roster through submitting winning essays, with finalists selected by Legacy Communities at the Georgia Aquarium. Stephen F. Been also contributed a similar amount for an educational trip to the Amazon Rainforest, with winners selected at Zoo Atlanta. The tradition of FSKF natural history excursions continues, with 11 high school students selected in 2012 to join a July trip to the Galapagos Islands as part of a Planet Green adventure.
